Shishito Peppers


Shishito peppers are small green peppers that are popular in Japan . They are sweet-hot, not-too-spicy and thin-skinned. These peppers can be pan-fried or grilled. You can find shishito peppers at a Japanese grocer or farmer's market.

Yield: 2 servings


  • Olive oil (about an inch up from the pan bottom)
  • 1 lb. shishito peppers


  1. Heat the olive oil in a heavy-bottomed skillet until it is hot.
  2. Add the peppers and cook them over high heat, tossing and turning them frequently.
  3. Fry them until the pepper skins look golden. It takes about 5 minutes.
  4. Take the peppers out and drain them on a paper towel. Place them into a bowl and serve them hot.
